Cedar Burke knows how to keep calm during chaos. As a twenty-six-year-old 911 dispatcher, she thrives handling other people’s trauma. However, behind the headset, her own life is unraveling.

Her first love, Tavrick Burke, is a sexy shell of the high school sweetheart she married. Damaged by the Army, fighting for disability benefits and suffering from PTSD; Cedar is doing everything she can to hold their marriage together. When she gets an opportunity with a big police department, she leaves her hometown for a big city offering more money and a fresh start. However, as she steps into her new role, she quickly discovers she’s not in Lake City anymore.

Settling into her new position, Cedar begins receiving love letters from a secret admirer. Sick of putting her needs last, she allows slow seduction to pull her into an unhinged affair – with a man who isn’t the man he pretends to be.

The youngest police Captain in his district, Captain Kashon Holsey, comes from a line of police officers. His father retired as the Chief of Police and his mother lost her life in the line of duty. Haunted by his mother’s sweet touch and his father’s strict hand, he buries his grief under routine and decisions that keep the city safe – all while he’s hollow. When Cedar stumbles into his office, a challenge with a sassy attitude and smart mouth; Kashon’s intrigued by her. He decides he must have her, and what the captain wants the captain gets.

Caught between a devoted husband, a sexy fling and a secret admirer, Cedar learns the hard way that every call has a cost, and the grass is always greener where you water it.
