Everyone at the Grand Meridian Hotel knows one rule: never unlock Room 717.

Mara Clarnon, the night receptionist, has heard every story—whispers about the charming spirit who roams the halls, the one who calls himself Mr. Black. He’s not like the others. He talks, laughs, listens. He moves objects just to make her smile. To Mara, he feels more alive than most of the guests she checks in.

When Mr. Black confides that he’s trapped outside his old room, longing to remember how he died, Mara’s empathy outweighs her fear. After all, what harm could come from opening one locked door?

The night she turns the key, the hotel falls quiet. A single light burns behind her as she realizes some doors were never meant to be opened.

This is a novella.

I’m Tierra Cox, a romance author and cross-genre novelist devoted to stories where we, Black women, are seen, desired, and worshiped out loud.

By day, I navigate the corporate communications world—but by night, I build realms where monsters kneel, empires burn, and love is never ordinary.

Armed with an overpriced English degree and an imagination that refuses to stay quiet, I write across fantasy, paranormal, sci-fi, and gothic romance—all bound by one promise: Black women at the center of passion, power, and possibility.

Every world I create asks the same question—what does it look like when a woman like us is the story’s beating heart? Expect devotion, danger, and desire that lingers long after the final page.

When I’m not writing (which is rare), you’ll find me somewhere in Georgia watching bad sci-fi, dreaming about alien royalty, or wandering through my next world before it’s written.

My entire collection is available on NOIR PAGES, in paperback on Amazon and in collections on my website!
