Welcome to Honey Creek, Illinois, where life was as sweet as the town’s name suggested. That was, until Mr. Fine Dining himself, Alex Ramírez, rolled into town with a permanent scowl. Even worse, he decided to park his snooty five-star restaurant across from my cozy dog daycare. He was tall, dark, and about as warm as a frozen entrée.

After one too many unpleasant interactions, I was determined to stay out of his way and to keep him out of mine.

But fate had a quirky sense of humor. When Alex inherited his great-aunt’s cranky canine, he had no choice but to come to me, the local dog whisperer, for help. As for me? I needed a fake boyfriend to ward off my ex-husband, who was determined to win me back.

So, we struck a deal: I’d turn his dog into the town's best-behaved pet, and in return, he’d be my arm candy for a few family events and social gatherings. Simple, uncomplicated, and absolutely not romantic—at least, that was what we told ourselves.

As we played house, I couldn't help but notice that underneath Alex’s prickly shell was a dash of charm that wasn't listed in the ingredients. Our pretend dates started to feel a little too real. And our feigned kisses? They were getting laughably close to crossing the line. Suddenly, our interactions felt less like a food fight and more like foreplay.

With every playful touch and lingering glance, I couldn't help but wonder: Was this fake relationship with Alex secretly penning its own authentic ending? Or was I risking it all for someone who was nothing more than make-believe?","format",{"_19":129,"_90":130,"_131":132,"_133":48},"publisher","page_count",370,"duration","published_date","pub_date","October 12","isbn","asin","B0CFZQPPGQ","hex_code","#f8d888","language","English","purchase_links",[],"playlist_links",[],"cover","https://cdn.blackauthored.com/books/3307i/5ad47983-b064-412c-9694-41a4cb981704.jpg","thumb","https://img.blackauthored.com/?preset=poster_thumb&image=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.blackauthored.com%2Fbooks%2F3307i%2F5ad47983-b064-412c-9694-41a4cb981704.jpg","rating_distribution",{"_122":123,"_124":125},"tags",[84,85,86,87,88,89],{"_19":26,"_90":119,"_92":93,"_54":-5,"_52":120,"_95":121,"_97":48,"_99":48,"_100":50},{"_19":115,"_90":116,"_92":108,"_54":-5,"_52":117,"_95":118,"_97":98,"_99":48,"_100":50},{"_19":111,"_90":112,"_92":93,"_54":-5,"_52":113,"_95":114,"_97":98,"_99":48,"_100":50},{"_19":106,"_90":107,"_92":108,"_54":-5,"_52":109,"_95":110,"_97":98,"_99":48,"_100":50},{"_19":101,"_90":102,"_92":103,"_54":-5,"_52":104,"_95":105,"_97":98,"_99":48,"_100":50},{"_19":30,"_90":91,"_92":93,"_54":-5,"_52":94,"_95":96,"_97":98,"_99":48,"_100":50},"name","Small Town Romance","category","genre","small-town-romance","url","/genres/small-town-romance","selectable",true,"sensitive","position",71,"Contemporary","setting","contemporary","/settings/contemporary",30,"Enemies to Lovers","trope","enemies-to-lovers","/tropes/enemies-to-lovers",5,"Contemporary Romance","contemporary-romance","/genres/contemporary-romance",33,"Fake Dating","fake-dating","/tropes/fake-dating","Romance","romance","/genres/romance","ratings",{},"recommend",{"_126":26,"_127":50,"_128":50},"yes","no","maybe",3,"Kindle","type","digital","audio","Problem","33552eeb-dfa8-4afb-81a6-d1358c6925a5","order",{"_19":138,"_90":139,"_52":140,"_141":-5,"_142":-5,"_143":144,"_145":146,"_147":98},"382d4db5-1855-4b91-814c-7a79fef86f15","Brittainy C.
